Topic Subject: Questions about Empires: Dawn of the Modern World
posted 11-09-10 04:47 PM EDT (US)
I was considering buying Empires: Dawn of the Modern World, Napoleon Total War, or Company of Heroes.

I realized that although I know plenty from the demo, I still have way to many questions. Because the Empires Forums are all archived or something, I'm posting here. Please answer any questions if you can.

GENERAL GAMEPLAY:
1) Can you play a map by yourself, like in the RoN demo?
2) Are the online servers still active?
3) Can you play a scenario in multiplayer? (if so is it: easy, just select the scenario and boom, or hard, like in EE where you had to convert it?

SCENARIO EDITOR/SCENARIO RELATED QUESTIONS:
1) What heroes are available? In particular, I am already planning a campaign (I know, stupid, right?) and was curious about the following figures:
--a. King Philip (saw him in the demo but is he playable?)
--b. Erwin Rommel (mentioned in demo but is he playable?)
--c. Charles de Gaulle
--d. George S. Patton (seen in cinimatics, is he playable?)
--e. Napoléon Bonaparte
--f. Any others you can list?
2) Do you make cinematics in the editor? Is it possible? Is it easy?
3) Does it have a trigger system, like EE, or a script system, like EEII?
4) Can you set the AI type?
5) Can you "hide" players? (like, can you make them not visible in diplomacy, like in Age of Empires III)

Thanks if you answer any of these for me. The sooner the better!

OFF TOPIC COMPLETELY: I love this font!

EDIT: One more question. Can you import Elevation Files? And if so, is it like EE or EEII?

1) Yes, you can, against up to 7 other computers in whatever set up for teams that you wish to create.
2) The last I checked, yes they are. I am relatively certain they still are, though there will not be a large amount of people online.
3) It is relatively easy. You set it and then if people who join do not yet have it, they will automatically start downloading it. This can take some time depending on the upload speed of the host, but is basically automatic.
SCENARIO EDITOR/SCENARIO RELATED QUESTIONS:
I'll let the people who have actual experience with scenario design answer these, though I'll say that the E: DMW editor is basically identical to the EE1 editor. Everything that you can do in the EE1 editor you can do in the E: DMW editor as well, and it is trigger based like EE, not script like EE2.

Surely the heroes must be listed in the editor? Could you just pop it open and take a peek for me (assuming you have the game)? I would wait but it's already been a while and nobody has been posting here... Thanks for what you've already given me, though!

I don't have a working copy of the game anymore to look at them. I can answer these questions for you, though hopefully I can get somebody else to come in and answer the rest for you.
2) Do you make cinematics in the editor? Is it possible? Is it easy?
3) Does it have a trigger system, like EE, or a script system, like EEII?
2) Yes to all of them, as its exactly the same as EE
3) Yes, triggers like EE.

I thought he was talking about Empires: Dawn of the Modern World heroes, not EE heroes.

Sails says he doesn't own the game but I know he has Empires, and Cyril said ok when Sails said others could answer the questions. Guess I should've read the thread title.

I don't have E: DMW anymore. I couldn't find it when I moved up to college. Theoretically it would still be in my old room in my parents' house, but that is about 300 miles away from me right now.

It's alright Ash. Your allowed to fail after all your wins

Uh huh. It's fine that you didn't read the title! But anyways, I already have EE so I only need the E: DotMW heroes. Thanks for attempting to help, though!

EDIT: Corrected the smiley face in the middle of DotMW. :P
