This scenario was inspired by the movie I recently saw, "We Were Soldiers." It may not follow the movie or history correctly, but it's still a fun scenario. I'm sorry if the Vietnam War has been done to death (ie. D-Day) and you don't have to download it if you don't want to. I spent so much time replaying this scenario to check for bugs.
To all Vietnamese: Don't take offense that I had fake Vietnamese language in the scenario. It all meant well. |

Summary: Overall i think you had a good Idea. The Ia Drang would be a very fun map indeed. Its just the map you put together needed alot of work. It seemed to me like you slapped it together in five minutes. I will say your idea has sparked me to make my own scenario on the movie though. Consider this constructive criticm.
Plability: Though you do get to use some strategy it is pretty much your superior force versus their much less developed force. They pretty much had 75 dohboys and you had 30 marines, artillary, and some helicopters. All you have to do is take your helicopter through the trees and kill the 15 snipers then bring your force around to kill the fohboys and artillary, not much fun there.
Creativity: As I said before it was a very creative idea, it just didn't have the power and effort to be a good scenario. Alot of professional computer games are like this, good idea, bad game. You didn't throw in any twists like the enemy getting reinforced, or the enemy appears all the sudden from behind and rushes you and maybe kills your artillary.
Map Design: The map design was a little to basic. Scince it was such a small map you could have put tons, I mean tons of detail into it. Maybe some swamps, bushes, all kinds of liitle objects that make Emire Earth maps so unique. Your map was basically some grass and trees around the edges and in the middle.
Story Instructions: The story instructions were pretty vague. When I started the game all I knew was kill the enemy and hunt for snipers. You need to give a descriptive breifing and maybe a nice action cinimatic of a helicopter landing and dropping off guys. (I know they can't litterally land but be creative.)
Conclusion: Though this map didn't have much to it I will say it was kind of fun to experiment with strategy. Bring your forces in line formation near your artillary and then flank the enemy form behind by landing marines by helicopters to take out their artillary. I will say this map would be good to download if you want to have a quick 5 minute battle then play something else. It was a good idea. Try harder and maybe you will come out with a 5.0 scenario next time.

i understand you're trying to help but it kinda hurt. i took 5 hours not 5 minutes. i was trying to get the triggers and camera angles right. i didn't know my briefing was bad. i had the "Objectives" and everything. i also told you to follow the route in the beginning of the game. and once you kill the doughboys and the snipers are still there, a chat message will pop up telling you to kill the snipers. what more can i say? look, i even had good grammar. i tried really hard on this scenario. honestly. |

and another thing. a 1 on map design? i guess it taught me that it's hard to impress people these days but maybe you didn't notice the elevation and FERNS i put around the map. didn't you like the pillbox? didn't it FEEL like a jungle to you?
if you want, i can make the american forces 20 soldiers less. would that be more fun, would it?
but im glad you said my scenario took strategy. all fixed force games should be like that. |

Im sorry but Im only trying to help. I still said it was a excellent idea. Im coming out with a scenario based on your scenario pretty soon. |

@Lord Kevin:
You may be astonished but to design a real good scenario it takes months - not hours.
Ask people like Gordon Farrell, Ingo van Thiel or whoever got excellent ratings how long they worked on their scenarios.
IMHO it would be fair if someone who worked one week at his scenario should get 3 points.
Of course some people work slower and some work faster but I guess most 3+ designer work more than a week at their scenario.
All in all I've to say that the more time you work at your scenario the better it will be. Great maps aren't the result of great talent but mostly of long and hard work.

BTW: You can download my map (The Wanderers of Sirion) in the next week (Depends how fast the heavengames crew will upload it) and take a look at what months of work can produce.
And please: Take it as an inspiration not as bragging. |

Playability: Good overall design with several options for completion. suggestions; possibly trigger additional marine reinforcements or an enemy ambush. I think, possibly, the choppers may make it too easy... maybe create them as a trigger where the player 'calls in' air support available x times per x seconds, but keep them in the mission though.
Creativity: I haven't seen the movie and don't know much about Vietnam but the premise was interesting. The objectives were basic but it's obviously derived from a dramatic story. I think if the author completes updated versions, it will have quite a story.
Map Design: Not bad, if a little small... or maybe very small hehe. Terrain was not just flat grass as I see in many scn's. The look was fine but more could definatly be added to increase the value. suggestions; place more random trees, some broken dirt paths, maybe even confusing dead end with a triggered trap... like a land mine or something. maybe you could even hide a couple more pill boxes in the woods.
Story/Inst: Instructions were clear and simple, reappearing during the mission without the necessity of returning to the objective screen. suggestions; I saw a radio man in the group... perhaps you could give him a special objective to complete for added difficulty.
overall: As I said, I don't have much interest in vietnam but I think Lord Kevin has a good start on a map that can be easily improved. It's not a bad play as it is but maybe a little short. You can beat it several different ways, which is nice :) GJ
