I am Brig. Gen. James Elias, Director of the Time Displacement Environment, and I welcome you here.
You were all selected by your prestigious constituents to represent them here. Some of you might have heard of this facility before, via the Life & Works of General Belisarius of Old Byzantium. For those who are new however, expect to be awed.
TIDE allows you to experience history by immersing your consciousness to any historical figure. This immersion is purely harmless- we have done this countless of times - but lately, there are a few but very vocal critics saying that this facility is actually a time machine! Ha! Non-sense, I tell you, non-sense!
But of course, you expect me to say precisely that, right?. Well, I will let you be the judge of that.
-----------------------------------------------
The Spanish invasion of Portugal between May to November 1762 was a main military episode of the wider Seven Years' War. It initially involved the forces of Spain and Portugal, before the French and British intervened in the conflict on the side of their respective allies.
If you have played the scenario, "Ghost Wars", your original point-of-view was Portugal. In this campaign, you can play 3 more factions: Spain, France & Britain.
NOTE: Read the HINTS section - it is an integral part of this campaign. |

Bad news, Shield!
I tried first as British but after my chat message LOYALTY I was hit with an immediate defeat trigger.
I went a second time, as France. I lost in about 30 minutes real time. I played on EASY. A might army of partisans wrecked my tiny army and left me without any way to defend by Town Center. I didn't have the resources possible to build a larger force and was forced to quit.
When I played the first time, as Portugal, I found the difficulty to be pretty even. |

Thanks for trying tek! Let me review the file immediately. Maybe some triggers have gone haywire.
EDIT:
Updated! For some reason, freeze trigger was not effectively "freezing" the officers, which allows them to be killed before the scenario starts. Weird, but fixed!
For the difficulty, I have doubled the time for the enemy army trigger spawn.[Edited on 11/28/20 @ 01:37 PM]

Playability: 5
So look. Shield has, in the past, made me want to kill myself due to the complicated nature of his scenarios. In this case, he has found a great balance between creativity and simplicity. All that is said to say that the playability is perfectly balanced. No lag. No glitch. Smooth gameplay!
Balance: 5
I played this scenario on EASY because I don't like a challenge when I first play custom scens for the first time. The difficulty was in fact easy, but not frivolously so. You still have to manage your resources and army. I'm certain, knowing Shield, that HARD is quite difficult.
Creativity: 4.9
-.1 for historical nature of the scenario. I hope I've been consistent about this.
Now the triggers work is excellent. The use of chat triggers for trades and building ownership is fun. The use of morale and supply triggers is classic Shield. This scenario has all of the elements that you come to expect in a scenario designed by Shieldwolf.
Map Design: 4.0
The map seems largely to be what it was in the beta scenario, however, I explored more of the map than the first time I played it. The elevation and terrain mixing is good. The towns and cities are simple but appropriate. Lisbon looked a little bit more interesting then the rest, which is good!
Story/Instructions: 4.5
The instructions were clear and concise. The hints section is most important, as it lays out the unique set of tools the player has to interact with the world. Those hints were clear and concise as well. The history section is solid, but not exactly teeming.
The sort of sci-fi umbrella story above the scenario itself is pretty cool. Any chance the general's name is coincidence?
Additional Comments:
What can I say? Keep designing! Looking forward to whatever is next on your docket!

Thanks for the review Tek! Let us just say that the General's name is based on a person who is a fountain of inspiration! :) Elias is an alias, too. |
