Promise Fulfilled: Battle of Leyte 1945
The Leyte Invasion, mounted by American and Allied forces in October 1945, was the largest amphibious operation to date in the Pacific theater. The campaign for Leyte proved the first and most decisive operation in the American reconquest of the Philippines, and together with the Battle of Leyte Gulf, considered to be the largest naval battle of World War II and, by some criteria, possibly the largest naval battle in history, inflicted horrendous Japanese casualties.
In fact, the loss of air and naval support at Leyte so narrowed Gen. Yamashita's options that he now had to fight a defensive, almost passive, battle of attrition on Luzon, the largest and most important island in the Philippines. In effect, once the decisive battle of Leyte was lost, the Japanese gave up hope of retaining the Philippines, conceding to the Allies in the process a critical bastion from which Japan could be easily cut off from outside resources, and from which the final assaults on the Japanese home islands could be launched.

Nice shieldy. Not too difficult, but not easy either. I slowly moved across the island, fought the naval battle.
There are too many units on the map for my taste, but you know; Tastes differ ;)
Well done! |

Playability: 4.4
This is a very fun and entertaining scenario. It is obviousely very tasking due to the many things the player must do. The large amount of units make things a bit tough as far as micro and management. overall tho, very very fun and much worth any player's download.
Balance: 3.9
This scenario is divided into three parts. Creating a beachhead/A major naval battle/ and the liberation of the Phillipines. part one is simple and easy. part two is of medium difficulty. and part three is simply too hard and requires intense focus and microing.
Creativity: 4.9
shield does a fantastic job using unit attributes and classnames to create a very real and quality setting and battle experience. -.1 due to historical aspect of scen.
Map Design: 5
like bataan, this map is excellent. stunning and perfect. not once did i say "this part of the map is lame"
Story/Instructions: 4.9
the story is historical, but shield does a good job creating a great story through dialog and cinematics. the instructions were great. the hints were fantastic. the history was superfluous. -.1 for spelling errors.
Additional Comments:
another gem. good work brother! |

Playability: 4.5
(This is a very playable scenario, as there's little-to-no lag, and that's a welcome sight since this user has had experience not being able to play certain scenarios from here without crashing over and over again, but, this one, despite the high unit count, runs well enough!)
Balance: 5
(This is actually a very balanced scenario in that, one might think the player has more than enough units at a time-or-two, especially once reinforcements arrive, twice, not counting the periodic ones after units fall in the natural course of play, but, if not used properly, things could potentially get dicey for the player, and the 'faction-switcheroo' kept things fresh and not overpowering!)
Creativity: 4.5
(No real unique features as far as chat commands and camera angles or 'eagle scouts' and 'healing hot springs' or the like, but, that's okay, as the 'faction-switcheroo' made this user do a double-take and didn't know what to think of it until after waking up and, in retrospect, found it pleasantly surprising and balancing! The player 'could' -- somewhat -- screw their own self over if they bomb an enemy airport to the west, as enemy buildings 'turn over' to the player once damaged enough, and one must do this tactically, as, without being able to have units around said damaged building to guard it once it flips, the enemy could easily finish it off and the player is without additional support, because the eastern airfields didn't come with great plane support, but, upon destroying the western airfield, this user saw a littany of planes that showed up as being useable by the player before the building went down by this user's own hand. Don't know if this user saw any description that such buildings could -- at least continually -- 'swtich over' to the user should they be damaged enough, and that could've been a 'hint' given at some point.)
Map Design: 5
(This is, as a shieldwolf23 trademark, where the scenario really shines! It's realistic and helps with immersion and it allows for balance between the factions throughout game play as well! There was just a tiny blip where a 'future' support destroyer and transport ship appear and disappear a couple times, showing the game's 'hand', as it were, and could confuse the player as the player may think they are controllable at that moment and take time from defending their units or taking the outlying islands, but, it's nothing this user will take a point off of for having.)
Story/Instructions: 4.5
(Besides the minor issue of the player not necessarily knowing enemy buildings could continue to turn over to the player, the ending for victory conditions being met came about a bit too abruptly for this user's taste, as there's just one quick remark made by the nondescript commanding officer and then the scenario ends with this user feeling like finishing off the remaining enemy defenses, as there were still two 'towns' not yet liberated.
Douglas MacArthur is heard from at a couple points, but nowhere to be found, and it would've been cool to guide him from the beach to land as a final condition for victory.)
Additional Comments: This was as realistic a scenario of 'The Battle of Leyte' as this user has seen, albeit that doesn't include much, but shieldwolf23 has definitely 'done it again' and maintains, even, some might say, exceeds, the quality he has come to be known for having in his scenarios! If anything, there were a handful too many enemy ships and pillboxes, but, it helps with immersion and isn't game-breaking, and still 'easy', at least as far as the player can go allowing it to be, dependent on their strategy and skill. Did the producer actually place the exact number of ships, and types of ships, in the scenario that there were in real life, or exaggerate slightly, because if it's without exaggeration, it really does qualify as one of, if not, as the notes suggested it to be, 'the' biggest naval battle in history, if it was anything like how the scenario depicted it to be!
Please, give this gentleman a round of applause!
