This file contains two scenario's; in one you play as Spain, in the other as Portugal. The goal is basically to destroy all enemies (there are no scripts.)
The beginning should be quite challenging, you get limited resources + a small fleet.
If you play as Portugal, Spain will have a larger fleet and more troops. If you play as Spain, Portugal will already have a colony established and reinforcements coming.
Portugal gets some units Spain doesn't get (Carabineer, Pikeman and Galleon for example.)
While Spain gets Spanish Infantry, Knights and Crossbows among others.
Only the Arquebus, Basilisk, Frigate and Battleship are shared.
There also some other small differences between the two nations.
---
If you play as Portugal, Spain will be pretty aggressive and these scenario's tend to be more dynamic.
If you play as Spain, Portugal will be more passive, but will have a strong base which requires some heavy fighting to subdue.

Your map design is really good! But unfortunately this scenario does not have any triggers.
My suggestion to you is as follows: Contact me, via MSN or skype and I'll teach you the basics of triggering. You really have talent and a good scenario doesn't require 100s of triggers. It would be a waste if you left without releasing more quality projects.

Sounds good, and if you get triggers under control it will be great.
To bad I do not have the expansion :P |

From what I have seen, it is a great map.
Add triggers. Especially diplomacy would be great.
Oh yeah, and please make an EE version. AOC is notoriously buggy (I recently got hit with the "has encountered a problem" bug and can't play with AOC anymore), and several people here don't have it. |

Additional Comments:
First of all, I will deal with all the good things of this map. It is not buggy. The map is extremely well made (both the terrain and the forts/towns). It is an interesting idea, and it is quite fun to play.
Now, onto the problems. The biggest is balance. To understand what I going to say about it, you need to know the setting of the map. Regardless of who you play as, there will be two major powers in the area: The Dutch and their two Native allies, occupying the north of the mainland (Dutch), the islands north of the mainland (Green Natives), and the islands west of the mainland (Red Natives. The other is the "Aztecas", controlling the far corner with a large city (Purple), the mainland area right below the Dutch (Grey), and spread throughout the western side of the mainland (Bright Red). These two powers fight each other in a somewhat balanced way (The Green natives are basically stuck on their island, the Red ones, while extending their empire onto the mainland, might normally have a chance without Spain or Portugal, and the Dutch, for some weird reason, rarely make expansions south, while the Aztecas pump out troops to fight in the mountain areas between themselves and the Dutch). The way it works is that the Aztecas lurk through the jungles and mountains with Copper Age troops (having some kind of ability to move all units through forest and mountain), the Grey Aztecas pump out ships for raids, and the Dutch build lots of ships.
The author, unfortunately, didn't count these factions in when he organized the Spanish and Portuguese forces.
If playing as Spain:
As Spain, you get a slightly larger army/fleet than you would have if you were Portugal, but AI Portugal has a slightly larger army/fleet than you to begin with, in addition to a small base nearby the Dutch-Green Native area. Under normal circumstances, you will build your base on the Red Native Islands (because the Green Natives go crazy and build about 60+ African Spearmen and 10+ Priests/Prophets, while even winning that will result in getting constantly attacked by Dutch battleships, and the mainland results in not enough resources and constant raids on your villagers). The Portuguese AI, meanwhile, will initially send its "reinforcements" on random raids on the Red Natives and your fleet, will lose its forces in the aforementioned raids (assuming you aren't defeated), and will then have its starting colony bombed into oblivion by the giant Dutch fleet. After that, winning becomes a matter of having a couple of battleships guarding your towns on the islands from Dutch/Azteca raiders while you pump out superior troops. The three Aztecas do make forces, but it is a fight between Copper Age guerrillas (because they rarely leave their forests and don't build many troops) and Renaissance army groups. The Green Natives never leave their islands, Portugal will be basically destroyed, and the Dutch are extremely lazy with ground troops (building maybe a handful of Aquebus for town defense).
Portugal:
In this variant, you have less troops to start with while Spain gets a giant fleet and army, but no colony. The same thing happens, but slightly differently due to different circumstances. You build on the Red Islands (conveniently closer this time),the Spaniards go nuts. This time, they are stronger, though. They build almost exactly where Portugal's starting colony was in the Spanish version and lose their forces the same way Portugal does, except the Spanish fleet and army is quite fearsome (if you bump into their army early, you will die very fast). Still, they aren't good at building more forces, so after their initial attack is gone, the Dutch will (predictably) pump out battleships and destroy the Spaniards. Oh, and you get more "modern" forces as Portugal (Pikes+guns instead of guns, crossbows, swords, knights, etc).
Either way, the balance results in either incredibly bad luck (Enemy lands near your town with big army, enemy kills all your villagers, you lose) or an easy game (Main enemy is killed by enemy that only builds ships, you easily use a human wave of high-tech troops to kill all your enemies since they aren't smart enough to attack your base). |
