Needs AoC?: |
Yes |
This mod contains 2 parts, a dbworld.dat file (thanks to AznKnight for the original popcap mod) that alters the single player popcap to 13,200 and the civ points to 6299 (enough to buy all civ bonuses). If you don't like that but want the popcap I recomend also getting someone else's popcap mod for the single player side.
The send file, actualy files but they both do the same thing, are patch files that when applied to the Empire Earth - AoC executable file will set the popcap to 13,200 for multiplayer!!! This last part was a good bit of hard work but for anyone that still plays this (or wants to again but with lots of population), here you go!
NOTE that the multiplayer popcap will work fine without any other changes and is probably compatible with other mods. In other words you don't need a dbworld.dat file with modified popcap to play 13,200 online. Well shouldn't anyway, I would have that just to be safe as it wasn't tested without that file.
Have fun!! (I know I will). |

Cool. If I hadn't already beat the campaigns I play, this may have been very useful.

Just wanted to add for those testing things out, it would seem that a system running with 512 megs ram and win2k, that the limit of popcap is actualy around 3000 to 5000 depending on map size. 3000 is safe with 5000 pushing your luck big time.
As for a 1 gig ram system (also windows 2000) it would seem that 8000 or so is near the limit (not 100% certain so to be safe er towards 1k or 2k less).
Not much testing on a 2 gig system but a 2 gig system can't quite handle 13200 (of course that system could have other issues other than memory... maybe it's winxp...)
When you go over the memory limit the system will become EXTREEMLY slow (like 1 frame every 2 to 5 seconds) and unstable (it should eventualy crash if you let it).
I hope everyone is loving this as much as me. Now I finaly have reason to look at rms files (we always found the 1200 popcap too restrictive and didn't play AOC much except solo). |

Umm.... does this mod work online if the host is the only person with the mod installed? Or do all players have to have it installed...
Also... if you have it installed, and you join a game online where the host doesnt have it installed, will you still be able to play? |

Honestly I don't *know* the answere to any of that. I would expect that since the game calculates a version number based on the files and modifications to the files then if you have the single player popcap change and/or the civ point increase installed that this will be taken into account in the calculation. The result being if the client/host doesn't have the same changes you won't be allowed to join.
As for the multiplayer popcap I don't know if the game takes into account changes (especialy small changes) to the file I altered. If it doesn't then the host will dictate the popcap even if the client is lacking the change. If the game does take this small change into account then same as above, need the same files.
I personaly don't play this online, just in house with friends on LAN and the multiplayer portion of this mod came about from that. It is rare that we don't connect right away since we all like the mods we play with even when not playing together.
Some extra tidbits while here: the computer that only had 512 megs of ram got an upgrade yet it still has trouble with popcaps over about 4k. You might want a beefy processor too (a medium level P4 or AMD equivalent + 1gig ram is good for massive but not maxed games, this mod has room to expand as you do). Also when you have hundreds (thousands!?) of units on screen at once some tend to blink in and out of existence. I have seen this on the systems that can play with 8k popcap and rarely (when everything is bunched in one spot) 6k games. It mostly happens when the AI builds lots of citicens and I go a slaughtering... It could be the game purposely removing units from the render process (looks likely) or the video card since the computers able to play those big games are equiped with 6800GTs.
This mod has brought AOC back into our playing where AOC got pushed asside for quite a while for things like starcraft; which has issues for us too, relating to global unit limits, try playing a drawn out game against 7 computers and you will see it. Since this mod we have played quite a lot :) |

andyshevts: All you have to do for that is save a campaign game, then rename the file from .ees to and .scn and move it to your scenarios folder then you can enable the cheats, its very easy, also the ee studio is located under utilities. Howvere i cant get it to work anymore |

I haven't been about for a bit so I didn't notice the help topics...
Anyhoo, to get it to work read the readme carefully. You require extra software (besides this package) such as ppfomatic (very user friendly).
The popcap for multiplayer is hard coded in a few places in the exe itself and I figured out where and what to change but posting a pre-modded exe is legaly iffy hence the use of a patch file.
As this patches the exe to allow larger multiplayer games if sierra put out a patch after this then this patch is broken, from the readme make sure that your game is version 1.00.7497 (also this only works for art of conquest). Mods can cause this version number to change but chances are if the version is 1.00 then you should be fine. If the exe file has been significantly modified (such as an official patch) from the file that the ips file was created for the ips patch will not even try (or at least it's not supposed to). I mention this patch stuff as I noticed patch 1.04 and don't know if it's for aoc or not.
So to boil it down a lot: If the ips patch is not installed for whatever reason then multiplayer popcap will not be modified.
As for cheats, not likely. Cheats in multiplayer/campain are not likely to be as simple as multiplayer popcap and the multiplayer popcap was done for myself and friends that still lan this game (rarely lately) and I thought I would be nice and release it to the world rather than keep it to myself...
request: could someone confirm if the 1.04 patch is for AOC and that it changes unmodded game's version number? If so then I will try to find time (and space) to update this multiplayer patch to 1.04... |
