Many people have noticed that the sound in Empire Earth 2 is poor quality so i took a look in the games sound library and found that most of this problem is caused by some low bitrate samples that the developers used for ambient sounds. So i posted a solution to this at the games official forums which describes how to replace 14 of the ambient sound effects with blank wav files to clean up the soundscape.
This is a ready made version of the sound library with the changes already made so that you don't have to mess around replacing files yourself.
To install, download this file "sounds.zip" and copy it to the folder C:\Program Files\Seirra\Empire Earth II\zips (location may differ depending where you installed the game). Be sure to make a backup of the original "sounds.zip" in case you want to revert the changes.
Although I can't say that the ambient sounds got in my face too much while playing, or that I bothered to sit back and think about the quality of the samples long enough to be bothered by them, Doc Matthews did and decided to improve on the in-game sound. It is not an understatement to say he has done so in style, and the result is a much polished and complete sound replacement for the ambients and other general sounds, providing a clearer, richer sound for EE2 that enhances gameplay for a more "pure" gaming experience.

Like Phillistine, I wasn't bothered too much with the ambient noises but trying the mod will make you tell the difference.
Nothing much more to say, but the fact that the mod doesn't affect online play is a big plus!
