Playability: 3.5
The Fifth Ring begins with a nice cinematic, and you must send a diplomat to the north and then help defend the city there. Later you find out who is behind this after you speak with the rulers of a desert town, and you must kill their leader. The scenario was solid all round, with a great effort in the story area. I found it average to play, it wasn't especially memorable and the gameplay was fairly standard. I would expect most players would quite enjoy this one. It also has some side quests which give it some replay value. I didn't explore this area much, but one thing I did fight some pirates at one point and scored some civ points.
Balance: 3
The scenario was fairly well balanced. A little strategy was required at the end and I had to reload a couple of times. You can lose by getting your two main heroes killed, so keep an eye on them. Overall it should provide a good difficulty for the average player, but I found it fairly easy.
Creativity: 4
A little more creativity would have made all the difference for me. The author has made a good effort on this scenario though, and though it's just a fairly simple B&D scenario for people to play, a lot of effort has gone in - plenty of renaming units, a history section covering more story, some stylish cinematics. The gameplay itself and objectives are a little flat, but the part with the gates is good, and requires the right choice of units and some foward building. The scenario has some depth with lots of stuff you might miss the first play, like some easter eggs, and triggers made in anticipation of many events.
Map Design: 4
A good effort here - plenty of eye candy in some parts, nice terrain mixing and elevations. The areas also had a good "shape", especially the towns. A little more attention to forests and a little more eye candy in the cities would round it out nicely - the transition from snow to desert was a bit too quick for me as well - it's a hard transition to make, maybe something in between like a river or mountains would help.
Story/Instructions: 4.5
This is the strongest area. I found the story a little forgetable, with not an epic plot, and simple characters with no story behind them. The units were mostly renamed which makes a big difference to the realism factor. There was no background image, but the story and instructions were handled perfectly - the instructions are kept simple and the story stored in history, so people can read it at their choice. I didn't need to use the hints, but they were all there too, and the story carried on throughout the scenario, with some good cinematic shots and well triggered messages, kept short and simple.
Overall: 3.8
I'd definitely recommend this to the average player, it should be a fun play. A good effort by the designer here too.[Edited on 08/30/05 @ 09:50 PM]

A B&D with it;s own unique touch.Loved the cinematics, messages and gameplay. No bugs and no lag encountered.
Balance: 4
It was ok-though I wouldn't call it perfect.I had to reload only once. But I guess it deserves a 4 for making it a bit hard to attack Duren.
Creativity: 4
Several units renamed, graphical size increase, a well presented story(along with cinematics)
Map Design: 3.5
Map design is average, nothing that great.
Story/Instructions: 5
Good job here.A well presented story using history section and good instructions(I didn't refer to the hints much).
Additional Comments:
A good example of how scenarios should be.I heartily recommend this great scenario for downloading.[Edited on 08/31/05 @ 04:21 PM]
