Important: For those of you who dont know, put the jgp's in the scenario folder, and put the music and in the sounds folder.
This is a very detailed map of Vietnam, and you must use infantry, m-60 machine gunners, bombers and many other changed units to fight against the north vietnamese. The objective of this scenario is fairly simple, capture the capitol of north vietnam. But you have a limited amount of time before the war gets so unpopular at home, that your troops must be withdrawn. This is a very accurate scenario. Ex: real citys where they should be, terrian very simular to real( i used an elevation map ), and the vietcong laucnhing attacks and having them surrond you, and the North Vietnamese far outnumber your army. Please download and enjoy! Also, feel free to rate with a 4.5 or higher. |

Playability: 4.5
This was a wonderful scenario! But my guys died alot, when i didn't even notice it. I think you put to many snipers.
Balance: 5
It was pretty hard to destroy the north vietnamese, yet not to hard if you made smart moves. Plus when you press the Ctril-Shift-Z thing like you said, then AI reallly fights well.
Creativity: 5
Im new, ive looked around here, and i havent found a vietnam where its the whole war.
Map Design: 5
Ive downloaded about 10 scenarios so far, but this one is the best, but there are alot of other good ones too.
Story/Instructions: 4.5
The menu was nice, and i liked the music and backround. Everything was explained. and i tried the advice that you gave the other guy on the backround thing and it worked.
Additional Comments:
Loved almost everything about it. plus the units (escpeccilay tanks) werent there to small size that they always are. |

Playability: 4.8
The Playability was excellent, although you could of changed some of the unit names (Sherman tank to the Sheridan, Helicopter Transport to Chinook, eg)
Balance: 4.9
I found it hard for my troops to travel across Vietnam so instead I used helicopters most of the time, although I only had 11 of them to use.
Creativity: 5
I've played 2 or 3 Vietnam Campaigns but this one is the best!
Map Design: 5
I wouldn't call the map a 'COMPLETE' Map of Vietnam since you missed some U.S Bases (Plekui, etc) but it sure did look real!
Story/Instructions: 4.6
The Instructions were simple, Destroy North Vietnam's Capital although it is boosted with lots of hps and protected by loads on NVA Troops, I found it challenging but don't we all deserve a challenge?

Playability: 2
In this scenario you must defeat North Vietnam in the Vietnam War, playing as the Americans. Your goal is to destroy the enemy capital, before the war becomes unpopular (after 100 minutes). The North Vietnamese have a spawning tendency like you, but they spawn all over. This reflects the nature of the war and the tactics used by each side quite well.
So you're probably wondering why the score is so low. Well, basically this is the laggiest scenario I have ever played. Now a normal lagging scenario lags during the part where battle is at its peak. In this scenario the map lags because it is massive, and there are 500 units on it, trying to kill each other all at once. I'd normally knock off a point for lag if it was light, or something I could play through. In this it starts to lag as soon as the unit numbers get up there in the 200s, and since it will carry on to over 300 units just on my side, and probably nearly as many for N. Vietnam, you can see that's going to be a lot of units. And because the scenario keeps pumping them out when they die, the lag isn't something you can play through.
Besides the lag, there is also the issue of what to do. Your goal is to destroy the capital. Problem is the city is guarded by hundreds of units, and AA guns that never die. Now for me the game was in such deep lag that the FPS was down to around 1 or 2 most of the time, and it was almost impossible to select units, so making them attack as a big group was next to impossible. On top of this, if I attacked all at once the game seems to prioritize the real-time aspect and just freeze the screen until it can catch up with its calculations. So I see my guys come in, and then when a new screen loads up they are all dead.
This was frustrating because my troops were much stronger, but they were switching to attack the AA guns and then more were coming in and killing them when I couldn't give them orders. I'm sure the gameplay would be a lot better without the lag, but I can't really comment on something I didn't experience.
The other thing about the 300 pop cap is that it's pretty much impossible to control your units or task them efficiently. This would have made such a nice scenario with 100, or maybe even 200.
I had about 2500 kills at the end, but I couldn't make any progress, and the timer was near running out. I don't like to quit a scenario without finishing it but there was no choice here.
What can I say? It's pretty obvious a scenario like this would lag, even if you have a fast computer and can't see the effects yourself. Lag will obviously depend on the computer, mainly on the real CPU ability. Mine is supposed to be 2 gigs but probably is a lot lower in reality, but the minimum requirements here are far too high.
Balance: 2
This scenario was too hard. The enemy capital had 100k HP so I was never going to beat it. Even without Ctrl-Shift-Z, which I quickly discovered made it too hard, I still couldn't beat it.
Creativity: 4
Strong creativity, especially in map design like the nice village constructions, minimap art and resizing of units. Units were also heavily modded in terms of stats, and the gameplay was unique because of the spawning. The gameplay wasn't dynamic enough though, the one offensive being the only notable event I saw in a war of almost a decade.
Map Design: 5
This area was brilliant. It makes elevation file use look like a must option for maps, showing a very realistic Vietnam. The minimap looks like a painting, and the flags look great on there. The choice of units and architecture is very good and shows very resourceful use of units from all ages. The terrain is beautiful, great eye candy, and terrific use of sparse forest trees that makes the use of only a single forest terrain quite acceptable, since the trees are so far apart to not become repetitive, while being close enough together to form the look of a continuous jungle, which is very realistic too. Only thing I didn't like was that much of the map was unused, in fact the line between you and the North Vietnamese was the only area that was important in the scenario really.
Story/Instructions: 4
This area is pretty strong. The tip about using Ctrl + shift + z to make the AI better was good, I hadn't heard of this before. I thought your history of Vietnam was very brief for such a long and complex war, it would have been nice to learn more about it in the history section.
There were two major instructions concerns - you didn't say where the enemy capital was or that you had to protect the embassy. I found these both out by experience, but I still couldn't see the capital so I had to turn the visibility on for a bit to look at it. It should really be in the instructions and flared on the map. The current year interface was nice and clear though, so you knew how much time you had to go.
The music was very beautiful, and added a lot of atmosphere, while the map was a good guide to go with instructions. One other thing you could have done to improve realism is give the player's custom civs, since the names even float above the units.
Additional Comments:
I saw you were worried about file sharing. File Sharing is fine here – feel free to add songs with a campaign. If you submit a file in campaign form you can’t view the mp3 files anyway, so people can't treat them as free music. But as long as you credit the artist and it's not for profit (which it isn't) it's fine to upload songs here.
Overall: 3.4
On one hand it's a great scenario, and probably deserves to be one of the best if you can play it smoothly on your PC. On the other hand, playability is everything, and many people will experience at least some lag. I hate to knock the rating down, but that's the highest score I will give it unless the lag is removed, which could probably be done easily enough by using half the troop numbers. I know you did tell me to rate it 4.5 or higher, but I'll assume you were being ironic. |
