The map editor supports importing DEMs so we can quickly make real world maps.

However, there is no clue as to where we are to place the files once we get them and what the extension of the file should be.

I tried following the EEH directions for EE1 and DEMs and it did not work for EE2.

Anyone made any progress with this yet or have any suggestions?

BTW - If we can get this working all you people making European maps, and world maps. This will make maps accurate and save you a tremendous amount of time.

Try dragging the bin file to Empire Earth II, try windowed mode and drag a bin file to EEII in Editor mode. Btw, do you know a good site DEM files in bin format (The that is for Empire Earth II)

I've finally found the solution! You must put DEM files in the folder My Documents\Empire Earth II\Import .

Hmm, strange I had this answer too but you have those files (I want actually know how that works to make hdr and such files). I have some suggestions: try giving them all the same name - Move them out of the Dem dir, start EEII and then put them back

It worked for you? As I described? hmhm i have the newest patch i hope i got it all right.. hmhmh I thinky my problem is how i make the hdr and fmt files on the site on click to download them but it only opens up a webpage of text so i copy and past that takes to notepad and make it a .hdr file is that right?

Oooh! That worked so beautifully. Thanks guys!
If only I knew how to make a proper scenario lol, but cool to have proper maps at least

I'm still on 1.05 if that matters, and used that last site that creates the .hdr and .fmt files.

Is it possible to create the fmt and hdr files from the bin or something? cause that other site didn't make them.

What are your settings when you import? Hard to find the right balance.

Tried max elevation 2, and scale 0.50. Didn't look too bad

(don't click - copy and paste in your address bar in a new IE window - my host sucks and don't allow external linking....)

    Step1 Go to http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/seg/ff/nph-newform.pl/seg/topo/customdatacd

Step 2 Select Your region on the map

Step 3 Change name of data from "mydata" to a name youd like ie "Italy" (if its a map of italy for example)

    Step 4 Hit Get Data

Step 5 Save as link and download the three files

Step 6 Place into My Documents\Empire Earth II\Import

Step 7 Go to editor and go to file import DEM

Thanks to guitar and others for that

PS Polyron how did u get such nice coastline?

I edited the map with the terrain equalizer. I don't plan to do anything with this map since I can't restrict the epoch advancing for AIs. Also, I would have to modify the game data files to change the name of the provinces.

My seetins were scale = x2.75 and max elevation= 2.1
