Sadly, there will be no trading in EE. Although I am disappointed about this, I can understand the decision to avoid it. Fact of the matter is, in AOK trading is really not very interesting or effective, so I can see why Rick just decided to nix it in EE.
A really good trading system would involve a huge amount of thought and software writing. And it would add whole months of playtesting. If a company is not prepared to put in that kind of time, it's better to skip it altogether, rather than to come up with something half-baked, like AOK has.
A central issue here, imho, is the fact that trading requires thoughtful planning, negotiated trade routes, and business strategies. RTS games, however, are too darned action-packed to allow time for this to happen in a meaningful or in-depth way.
One of the best trading systems I ever saw in an RTS-like game was Microprose's "Machiavelli." Anybody else play it? Very cool trading... but the game suffered on other counts.
